It's time for the last slam contest of the year, and we'll see if mimi returns to set us all straight again.
The rules are suspiciously familiar with new additions in bold.
1. Pick quarterfinalists, semifinalists, finalists, and champions for both ATP and WTA draws at RG. You will receive 7.5 points for each correct quarterfinalist, 5 points for each correct semifinalist and finalist, and 20 points for each correct champion. (NOTE: God-Fed clause is in effect, you only get 10 points for picking him as champion if he wins. Rafa's rule is not in effect. The new Serena rule is in effect; she is only worth 15 points as champion until she finally wins a non-Slam title.)
2. Pick a wildcard player from each draw. If the wildcard makes the quarters, they will take the place of one of your incorrect picks, with the same point value. Your wildcard may not be a player you have already picked for the quarters or onwards. NOTE: your wildcard does not need to be a player awarded a tournament WC. In fact, picking one of the eight tournament wildcards in this category would be really dumb.
*3. Biggest Loser: 5 points for picking the highest seed that will lose in the first round from each draw. The player must be a top-16 seed. If no seed loses in the first round, the bonus will carry over to the second round. You get 2 points if your seed loses in the first round, but someone else correctly picked a higher seed to lose.
*4. Winning ugly: 3 points for naming the player who plays the most games from the first round through the fourth round.
*5. I Used to be a Contender: Pick the current non-3 slam holder former or current number 1 that goes the furthest (for the men, this consists of: Safin, Hewitt, Ferrero, Roddick and Nadal; for the women: Venus, Clijsters, Mauresmo, Sharapova, Ivanovic, Jankovic, Safina) for both the men and women. A correct choice is worth 3 points.
**Categories marked by an asterisk are optional, but you probably will top the specials club if you don’t enter all of them.
EXTRAS
1)Sewn up bonus: Unseeded quarterfinalists are worth an extra half point for every seed they take out en route.
2)Each bagel (6-0) set your quarterfinalists bake is worth 2 points. Each breadstick (6-1) is worth 1 point.
3)WTF bonus: if you have a pick that makes it to the quarterfinals that no one else made, you'll gain an extra 5 points for it.
The draws will be posted when up. And that's the time I will hassle previous contest entrants to enter again.
EDIT: Draws are up! Or at least, the men's is, so I'm assuming the women's will be up soon.
