This is essentially a test of how the board is working. Since I (earlier today) posted a new topic, and everything appeared to be working, I wanted to check if simply posting a reply would work okay; since posting a new topic did not actually get posted.

First can I say great site, really enjoying it. However I felt I really had to reply to the following statement especially as you included wimbledon which is so close to my heart. Here is the statement on your site When was the last surprise US Open champion?
Unlike the Australian Open (Johansson), French Open (Costa) or Wimbledon (Stich), the US Open has always required a player of top caliber to claim its title. So true is it, that the last non-Hall of Famer to win in NYC was perhaps in 1963 when Rafael Osuna was champion. Don't believe us? Check it. Of course we assume Lleyton Hewitt will enter the Hall, as will Marat Safin. Bottom line: The 2006 US Open champ will not be an unknown!

The last non hall of famer was Manuel Orantes in 1975? Just another little point, Michael Stich was seeded no 6 for wimbledon when he won it where as the U.S Open almost had Greg Rusedski as its champion in 1997 (unseeded just like Mark Philippousis the year after)when he could not even beat Henman to win the British National title!! And finally looking at some of the players in the hall of fame it would appear that it is enough to win the US Open to guarantee yourself a spot in the HoF. A little too much like the Baseball WORLD series where only an American team can win perhaps? Not suggesting of course that just because the selection panel until 1974 was all American and afterwards always in the majority that they would have used this to protect the good name of their title. I know in America vote rigging would never be used....ask Mr Bush Junior.... ;) Hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing. Look forward to seeing Manuel Orantes added to the list of Hall of Famers even though he does not fulfil the criteria anywhere else.

Oh and I do not think that Marat Safin should or will be a future HoF as he has not won enough and has a poor temperament and lack of consistency. So I would suggest the most recent surprise was Marat Safin in 2000?

Again, great site and I will try not to be too picky in the future (if you leave wimbledon alone that is :)

welcome, eg. it's nice to have new visitors to the site, even though it's burning like rome oh-so-long-ago (and maybe like the current-day usa).

Hi Louise,
Thanks for the welcome but dont mention Rome burning as that is where I live! Been here for 6 years and it is a beautiful place although the language is tough to start with. Went to the Masters at Rome and and had front row seats to watch Nadal. Also watched Federer lose to the local hero which was great (obviously not so much for Roger but he wins so much anyway ;) ) The arena was half empty all week as tennis is very much a secondary thing after soccer here. All the better for me. Paid $20 for semifinals day!

This site and messageboard has really gone downhill fast. Nine moderators and not one of them are around to delete the Jessica Simpson spam that "Raymond_Dallimoreff11" has posted everywhere.

Nice job, tennisx.

It's called the off-season, sweetheart. You know, like clay court season for Donk.

Sorry, would love to stay and chat but I have a few spam threads to delete.

Isn't there a way to ban him/her so you don't have to delete his posts all the time? Just when a troll leaves, another one comes.

Hello everyone.

I usually post in the Tennis-X blog and news section but I decided to finally register for the forum and post in both places. Just in time for the U.S. Open  .
