Rather than being good and totaling the contest results, I got curious about the slam results of notable players and put them in order according to a system that makes sense only to me.
Federer 26-2
After his "terrible" 2008 where his record was second only to Nadal, he not only made all 4 slam finals, but also won 2 of them. No hardcourt slam for him, though.
del Potro 17-3
I put him above Nadal because he played all 4 slams, even if he'd like to forget his Wimbledon this year. If last year was his breakout year, I guess this is his "continuing to excel" year.
Nadal 16-2
His first hardcourt slam was impressive. Between his knee and stomach injuries, it was downhill in slams after that. It will be interesting to see what shape he's in next year; hopefully he'll have healed.
Roddick 16-4
He equaled his best results at the AO, FO, and Wimbledon. Too bad about running into Isner. He has to hope that he gets put in Djokovic's quarter at slams, as I don't think he's got good chances against the other 3 of the top 4 (and that would be 4, if Djokovic played like 2007-early 2008 Djokovic).
Verdasco 15-4
I place him slightly above the other 2 with his record because nobody expected him to get to a slam semi.
Djokovic 15-4
Definite step backwards after last year. At least he did better at Wimbledon this year.
Murray 15-4
I think he's underperformed in slams. Needs to take louise's advice and play more offensively, otherwise he'll continue to get blown out of slams.
Soderling 14-4
del Potro messed up his "lose to the eventual winner of all slams" award. He's got to improve in non-slams to get into the top 8 so he can meet the top 4 in the QFs. It would also help if he manages to get out of Federer's quarter.
Tsonga 12-4
His improvement is that he managed to play all 4 slams this year.
Simon 11-4
On for lou's sake. One QF is not very impressive.
Davydenko 9-3
Poor results.
